About Us

Mermade Pearl Studio is a Christchurch-based practice exploring baroque, keshi, and unusual cultured pearls through a contemporary design lens.

Founded by Lisa Yuyi, a Fashion Design graduate of AUT. The work is led by the material, allowing each pearl to shape how it is used.

The current body of work is primarily jewelry, developed and presented through local markets. Mermade Pearl Studio is also part of the Homegrown Gallery, a collective of local artists at The Arts Centre Christchurch, where a curated selection of pieces is available year-round.

While grounded in jewelry, the practice continues to evolve — expanding into fashion and objects for the home, using pearls as a material rather than a fixed category.

At our core, Mermade Pearl Studio is about shifting perception — from pearls as uniform and decorative, to pearls as individual, expressive, and full of possibility.
